Chef Michael Symon, James Otto Cooking on Dinner: Impossible

Chef Michael Symon, James Otto Cooking on Dinner: Impossible

From CMT.com

By: Chef Michael Symon

*Michael Symon is the chef and owner of critically acclaimed Lola and Lolita restaurants in Cleveland, but he’s best known as one of Food Network’s Iron Chefs and host of the network’s show Dinner: Impossible. It’s the latter job that paired him with country star James Otto. Yesterday, James told his side of the adventure. This is Chef Symon’s take on cooking with James.*

I never know what I’m getting into for each episode of Dinner: Impossible, and this trip to Nashville was no different.

They brought me to the Grand Ole Opry and told me there’s going to be a concert that evening with James Otto and Charlie Daniels, and Charlie wanted us to cook a meal based on “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” to feed 350 of his select guests.

Now, I’m more of a rock-n-roll kind of guy, but I love music. I love Hank Williams Jr., I love Charlie Daniels, I like the things James is doing, I love Johnny Cash … so I don’t know if James had heard of me, but I’d heard of him.

Meeting James was pretty intimidating since he’s so tall! I have a 6-foot- 3 father, and he makes my father look short. James is a huge man. I figured he could probably kill me with his bare hands, so what’s the danger of giving him a knife?

I hear that! (smiles)

Chocolate cake sounds really good right now.

Them deviled eggs looked really good too! Of course when I have one of them, I squeeze out what is there and just eat the white part. And yes, I get a lot of "What are you doing?" kind of looks from people, but I don't mind! (laughs)

God bless you and James always!!!

Cake!

I don't know about the rest of you, but I have been craving cake all day! I watched DI lastnight, I wish they would have shown a litle more of James. I hope it will be on again!

Great Show

I watched the show last night also!!! I liked it a lot. In a perfect world we would have seen at least a full 30 minutes, but I agree with the others that any amount of time on the TV is a great thing. He looked awesome as always.

Forgive me for wanting nothing but the absolute best for James.

Then again why should anyone be sorry for such a thing?

God bless you and James always!!!

James is the man!

I saw the show and it was great! Aww how i love looking at that man! Im happy when I see him for only a minute! It was great exposure for him!

It was awesome!!

Ditto Michelle!!! :) I really enjoyed the show! Just think how cool it is that James was picked to do this. I mean, think about how many other people they could have had do it! What great exposure for him -- he did such an awesome job and it looks like he had a great time doing it too!

Again...

Be grateful that James is getting exposure. Maybe someone watching the Food Network will think that he's a hunk and go look him up. BAM!! There's a new fan!

Be grateful......all whiners go home.....

James worked so hard and 30 minutes is all thats given to him???

Thanks to the commercial breaks, it was really only 21 minutes. To me, that is a flat out insult.

Yes, I should be grateful that it was James who got to be on the show in the first place and not another person and I am grateful. Really I am, but gee whiz!!! James said it himself! "It sure would be a shame if we let this moment end so soon!" Have the powers that be of the show even heard "I Just Got Started Loving You" at all any yet???

God bless you and James always!!!

P.S. Forgive me if I have gone over the line, but I hate to see people I love getting ripped off. I hate it! (trying not to cry)

Otto - Chef Symon - Chef Todd!!!!

I LOVED the show! I mean, three great guys all on one show! I couldn't have ordered a better menu of talented men! I loved seeing CD too! I have fond memories of going to many a CD concert back in the day when he was a brunette!

It was so cool to see the guys teaming up to make the meal, and all the little touches to make the food not only taste good, but look great! Would have loved to have more footage shown, i.e. James singing, James and Chef Todd singing, Chef Symon asking where I was........I'm just sayin'........ ;o)

DI

I just watched James on DI. It was really great watching it and just seeing James on the show was a thrill. I love watching Food Network and all the shows on it. I just went to Paula Deens Lady & Sons last Wednesday in Savannah, Ga. while we were on vacation in Hilton Head, SC. I also just ordered my tickets to see James Saturday night in NC. I can't wait! This will be the second time I have seen James the first being in Myrtle Beach. Hope to meet some of you that are also going.

Patti

I shouldn't be here at my computer already.

I thought that we were going to get an hour of James on the food show, NOT 30 MINUTES. (trying hard not to explode)

God bless you and him always!!!

P.S. I have been stripped of my smile for the time being.

Awwww....Lanamiller68

Sorry to hear you won't see it! That's sad........maybe someone can tape it for you, all I have is a DVR, so anyone with a VCR could do that for ya!

The Food Network

On the website for the Food Network they have a complete list of when the episode with James will be airing. I didn't count but it is going to air several times. Think of me as you watch seeing how I don't have t.v.!!! Happy cooking!!!!

So, what kind of food will James put on the menu? (smiles)

"They brought me to the Grand Ole Opry and told me there’s going to be a concert that evening with James Otto and Charlie Daniels, and Charlie wanted us to cook a meal based on “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” to feed 350 of his select guests."

The first thing that came to my mind when I read this was devil's food cake.

God bless you and James always!!!
